Workshop details

My workshops are designed for small groups learning relevent and practical skills together. I have focussed in two areas: a beginner's rapid progress level for people with their own digital SLR or advanced bridge camera; and a field-based landscape photography day to exploit the countryside on my doorstep

Digital SLR skillset

Get the best from your beautiful DSLR with this hands-on workshop, or buy a voucher as a gift for a friend or loved one. Digital SLRs contain some awesome technology, but that does not guarantee good pictures. If you have a new camera, or have had one for a while and want to know how to get the most from it, then this workshop is for you.

You will gain an understanding of the essential settings for capturing top images and if you have ever been disappointed with your pictures, you will learn to control the camera without resorting to the Auto or Program functions that can often let you down.

Each session lasts approximately 4 hours and deals with the theory in a practical environment (see - try - practice - discuss) where you learn hands-on to use your camera under a professional's eye.
You will come away knowing how to handle your camera in the following key areas:

  • Exposure (using Aperture/Shutter Speed/ISO settings)
  • Focussing and depth of field
  • Focal length and lens selection
  • Composition

Price of £65 includes refreshments and VAT, with a "bring a buddy" discount of 15% for two people. Places are limited to 6 per workshop.

The key to learning so much was the use of technology, really clear explanations and notes, and the opportunity to practice at every step under expert guidance. Brilliant!

Learning landscapes

I have lived in West Sussex, and recently East Hampshire, for over twenty years. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty that has been the heart of the South Downs National Park since its formation in 2011.

These landscape workshops last a whole day with a guided walk through some of the best scenery within an hour of London.

Walks concentrate on seeing, composing and capturing the right light, plus what to do when conditions aren't perfect. Lunch is provided and magically appears out of nowhere...

You will need:

  • Camera/lens(es)
  • Filters (if you have them)
  • Tripod (can be provided on request)
  • Rucksac
  • Outdoor clothes (waterproof, boots, hat)
  • Spare drink

Price per person is £135 including VAT, with a "bring a buddy" discount of 15% for two people. Places are limited to 6 per workshop.

Edward is an excellent teacher - very clear and working at a good pace.
